Chess Club
Dublin Chess Club is the oldest chess club in Ireland, having been founded in 1867. In 2017 we celebrated our 150th anniversary.
Since 1986 the club has been located on the top floor (Room 9) of the United Arts Club in a room dedicated to chess with boards permanently set up for play. United Arts Club members are welcome to use the facility – our club nights are on Wednesday evenings when casual chess can be enjoyed from 7.45 PM on a “drop in” basis. As a small friendly club, visitors and new members are always welcomed.
The club periodically runs special events such as “blitz competitions” and “Teach-Ins” to help players improve
their ability.
Our members’ ratings vary from novice up to IM (CC) so that a competitive game is assured for players of all abilities. The more serious players can compete for the club in the Leinster Chess League where we normally field three teams.
